Why Oath Co Exists

June 28, 2026

Oath Co began with a refusal.

Not a dramatic one. No single moment of revelation, no competitor we were reacting against. Just a quiet, persistent refusal to accept that the skincare we were using — for ourselves, for our families — needed to contain the things it contained.

The fragrance. The essential oils added for their natural credentials rather than their function. The long ingredient lists padded with things that existed to improve the feel in the hand at the point of purchase rather than the effect on skin over time. The fundamental assumption that skincare should smell appealing, because that’s what sells skincare.

We began, as most things begin, with a question. What does skin actually need? Not what does it need to feel immediately luxurious, or to photograph well in a flat lay, or to generate a specific association with nature or science or ritual. What does skin actually need, biologically, to be healthy and to stay that way?

The answer turned out to be shorter than the industry suggested. Barrier lipids. Barrier support. The removal of things that disrupt the barrier. The occasional targeted active, chosen for what it can demonstrably do rather than for what it can be claimed to do. That’s most of it.

What we have is a clear formulation standard that we haven’t deviated from, a commitment to listing every ingredient by its INCI name, and a belief that the most useful thing we can do for our customers is make products that work and explain honestly why.

Fragrance-free. Essential oil-free. Nothing unnecessary. This is the oath.
