We don’t begin with ingredients. We begin with purpose.
Before we choose a single oil, botanical extract, or active ingredient, we first define what a collection is designed to achieve. What is the skin asking for? What does it actually need? Only once those questions are answered do we look at what nature has to offer.
This is not how most skincare is made. Most skincare begins with a formula — a base that’s already been decided — and works backwards from there. Ingredients are chosen because they’re trending, or because they photograph well, or because they’re cheap enough to include in large quantities.
We find that approach backwards.
At Oath Co, every ingredient earns its place. If it doesn’t serve the formula’s purpose, it doesn’t go in. This is why our formulas are shorter than most. It’s not minimalism for aesthetic reasons — it’s because we genuinely couldn’t justify anything else being there.
Fragrance-free is the clearest expression of this. Fragrance serves no skin function. It exists entirely for the person smelling the product — or for the brand selling it. We made the decision early on that we wouldn’t ask your skin to tolerate something it doesn’t need. That decision has never changed.
The same logic applies to essential oils. We know they’re natural. We know they’re beloved. But the research on essential oils and skin sensitivity is clear enough that we can’t, in good conscience, include them in formulas designed for the most sensitive skin. So we don’t.
What remains is what works. And that’s enough.
